Nannies in Malta
Browse nannies who live in Malta or Gozo and want to look after children in a family home: full-time, part-time, live-in or regular babysitting. Profiles list childcare experience, including newborn care where the nanny has it, languages, other skills and availability, so you can judge for yourself who might suit your children.
CarerMalta is an advertising platform, not an agency. You contact nannies directly, interview them and agree hours, duties and pay between yourselves, with no agency fees. Every nanny listed is 18 or over.
When you employ a nanny, Malta's Domestic Service order applies: it names babysitters and nursemaids among household workers and sets minimum pay, a weekly rest day and paid public holidays.

Common questions
What's the difference between a nanny and a babysitter?
A nanny looks after your children as a regular job, often full-time and sometimes living in. A babysitter gives occasional care for a few hours, such as an evening out. Nannies who want babysitting or part-time work say so on their profile. Our guide to nannies, babysitters and childcare centres compares the options.
Can I hire a babysitter on CarerMalta?
Yes. Look for nannies whose profiles mention babysitting or part-time work, and contact them directly. If you employ a babysitter by the hour, the Domestic Service order sets a 2026 minimum of €5.82 an hour (L.N. 288 of 2025, checked 15 Sep 2026).
Is childcare free in Malta?
The Free Childcare Scheme supports working parents and guardians, and those in education, through participating childcare centres (Jobsplus, checked 20 Oct 2026). A nanny at home is arranged privately between your family and the nanny.
Can I hire a nanny from outside the EU?
The nannies listed here already live in Malta. A nanny who is still abroad needs an Identità single permit: nanny is on the Skilled Occupation List (Jobsplus, checked 20 Oct 2026), so the job must first be advertised on Jobsplus and EURES for two weeks, and a first permit costs €600 (Identità, checked 20 Oct 2026; Identità, checked 20 Oct 2026). A CarerMalta listing is not that advert, and CarerMalta doesn't take part in permit applications.
What should I ask a nanny at interview?
Ask about past childcare jobs and the children's ages, what a normal day looked like, and how they would handle real situations, such as a child with a fever. Ask for references and check that the nanny is 18 or over and has the right to work in Malta. Our interview guide has a checklist.
