Home care in Malta
Browse carers who live in Malta or Gozo and visit older people at home for a few hours a day or on set days, without living in: help getting up, washing and dressing, meals, company, shopping and appointments. Each profile says whether the carer wants live-out work and lists experience, languages and availability.
This is private home care: your family employs the carer directly and agrees the hours and pay. It is separate from the government Home Help service run by Active Ageing and Community Care (AACC), which you apply for through AACC. If AACC approves Home Help hours, its subsidised option can pay towards a helper of your own choice.
CarerMalta is an advertising platform, not an agency: you contact carers directly and there are no agency fees. Carers give personal and household support, not medical care.

Common questions
What home care services are there for older people in Malta?
AACC runs several, including Home Help, Meals on Wheels, Telecare, Respite at Home and CommCare home visits, and one Elderly Services application form covers most of them. Our guide to help at home for older people describes each service. This page lists private carers you employ yourself.
Can I get help paying for a visiting carer?
Possibly. With Home Help of Your Choice, AACC pays €10.00 for every hour its Home Help Committee approves when you engage a helper of your own choice (servizz.gov.mt, checked 15 Sep 2026). The Carer at Home scheme, for people over 60 who employ a carer with a recognised qualification, pays up to €9,000 a year in 2026 (servizz.gov.mt, checked 15 Sep 2026); ask AACC whether your arrangement qualifies.
How much is a visiting carer paid per hour?
The rate is a term you agree with the carer. For hourly household workers, the Domestic Service order sets a 2026 minimum of €5.82 an hour (L.N. 288 of 2025, checked 15 Sep 2026). Our pay and costs guide explains the rules.
What is respite care, and can I get it at home?
Respite gives a family carer a break. AACC's Respite at Home service sends a care worker to stay with the older person at home, and Residential Respite offers up to 63 days a year in a care home, with up to €72 a night reimbursed if you book an approved stay yourself (AACC, checked 15 Sep 2026). You can also employ a visiting carer from this page for regular breaks.
Can a visiting carer give medical care?
No. Carers on CarerMalta offer personal and household support, such as washing, dressing, meals and company. For medical needs, wound care or changes to medication, speak to your GP or ask AACC about its community services.
