Housekeepers in Malta
Browse housekeepers who live in Malta or Gozo and want work in a family home: cleaning, laundry, ironing, cooking and keeping the household running, live-in or live-out. Many families searching for a maid in Malta want exactly this: one person employed by the household, rather than a cleaning company.
Each profile is written by the housekeeper and lists experience, languages, skills and availability. You contact housekeepers directly and agree duties, hours and pay between yourselves. CarerMalta is an advertising platform, not an agency, so there are no agency fees.
Housekeepers are household workers under Malta's Domestic Service order, which sets minimum pay, a weekly rest day and paid public holidays. If an older parent also needs personal care, look at carer profiles too.

Common questions
Is a housekeeper the same as a maid?
Usually, yes: a person employed by the household to clean, wash, iron and often cook. We say housekeeper. The Domestic Service order covers maids, housekeepers, cooks and cleaners alike (S.L. 452.170, checked 15 Sep 2026).
How much is a housekeeper paid in Malta?
Pay is a term you agree with the housekeeper, at or above the legal minimum. The Domestic Service order sets the 2026 minimums for household workers: €1,016.37 a month for live-in workers who sleep in at least 17 nights a month, €1,000.08 a month for other monthly workers and €5.82 an hour for hourly workers (L.N. 288 of 2025, checked 15 Sep 2026).
Do I need to register as an employer?
Yes. A household employer needs a PE number from the Commissioner for Revenue and fills in Jobsplus engagement and termination forms for each household employee (Jobsplus, checked 20 Oct 2026). No DIER licence is needed (Identità, checked 20 Oct 2026). Our guide to employing someone directly has the steps.
Can I hire a housekeeper from outside the EU?
The housekeepers listed here already live in Malta. A housekeeper who is still abroad needs an Identità single permit: the job must first be advertised on Jobsplus and EURES for three weeks, and a first permit costs €600 (Identità, checked 20 Oct 2026; Identità, checked 20 Oct 2026). A CarerMalta listing is not that advert, and CarerMalta doesn't take part in permit applications.
Can my housekeeper also work for my neighbour?
Not if they hold a single permit. The permit doesn't allow paid duties for anyone other than the identified employer (Identità, checked 20 Oct 2026).
