Safety & fair work

✋ Workers: never pay anyone
Using this site is completely free for workers — now and always. No one may charge you for creating a profile, for "registration", for being introduced to a family, or for getting a job through this site. Anyone asking you for money is a scammer: do not pay, and report them to us.
For helpers
- Meet in a public place first where possible, or bring a friend to the first interview.
- Never hand over your passport or identity documents to anyone — an employer never needs to keep them.
- Agree duties, working hours, days off and salary clearly before starting — in writing if you can.
- Trust your instincts. If something feels wrong, leave and report the profile to us.
- No one may charge you a fee to be introduced to a family, to get a job, or to arrange or change a permit, and you must never pay money to buy or sell a job or a person. Anyone who asks for that is a scammer: refuse, and report it to us.
For families
- Verify references and experience yourself — we display what helpers tell us, and beyond phone verification we do not vet anyone.
- Make sure any engagement complies with the employment and immigration laws of Malta — fair pay, reasonable hours, proper conditions.
- Never withhold a worker's documents or wages.
Zero tolerance: exploitation & trafficking
We have zero tolerance for human trafficking, debt bondage, document retention, deceptive recruitment, the sale or "transfer" of workers, or any form of exploitation. Profiles or accounts involved are removed and, where appropriate, reported to the authorities. If you or someone you know is in danger or being exploited in Malta, call:
- Emergency (police, ambulance, fire): 112
- Supportline (abuse, domestic violence, human trafficking): 179
- Victim Support Agency (national victim support line, free): 116006
- Victim Support Malta (victims of crime): 21228333
- DIER helpline for workers (pay and working conditions): 1575
Never pay a fee for an introduction
CarerMalta is free for carers, housekeepers and nannies, and no one may charge them for an introduction, a job, a permit or 'registration'. If anyone asks you to pay a fee to them, or to anyone else, for this site or for an introduction to a family, do not pay. Keep the messages and report the profile or message to us with the report button.
Families: CarerMalta will never ask you to send money to a person. Be cautious of anyone who asks for payment in advance before you have met the carer or seen a written contract, and of anyone who promises a permit or visa; only Identità decides on permits.
Problems at work: DIER
The Department for Industrial and Employment Relations (DIER) deals with workplace complaints in Malta, such as unpaid wages, hours or days off, and deductions from pay. DIER's helpline for workers is 1575 and its helpline for employers is 1576. You can also email info.dier@gov.mt or use the contact form on the DIER website.
If an employer keeps your passport or identity documents, or you feel unsafe, call 112 or Supportline 179 (numbers above).
See something suspicious on this site? Every profile and job has a report button — use it. We review every report.
CarerMalta is operated by Lovell Digital Properties Pty Ltd (ACN 691 669 280), Adelaide, South Australia.
